I'm the sort of person who perceives that they have the ability to do anything they put their mind to. Sometimes the realisation that, just because I CAN do anything, it doesn't mean I SHOULD do EVERYTHING comes a little harder!
But despite this fact, and despite the fact that I have a million other projects already started, I decided that it was high time I had a go at making a quilt. Why not?! I have a sewing machine. I can work out how to cut in straight lines (I think - though how straight is actually critical in quilting?). I once made a paper pieced patchwork cushion cover made from Mum's old pillow cases. Surely this means that I am perfectly competent at Quilting!
Hmm, we shall see...
I fully expect this to be a long term project as I create around my kids, my work, my garden, and whatever other distraction takes my fancy. Also having to move everything off the dining room table when I want to cut something or get the sewing machine out doesn't help too! But I'm happy to have something ongoing in the background.
Over the last couple of months I have been collecting fat quarters and scraps of fabric from various shops locally, so unfortunately I am not going to be enlightening you with which fabrics I have used for this quilt. And it really had no rhyme or reason as to which fabrics I bought, as long as they suited the general "jungle" theme of my son's bedroom.
I've mostly worked out the rotary cutter, though still have to think hard about which bits i'm lining up with what marks! And no blood either!
This past weekend I finally had enough fabric to lay it out (excuse my lounge room floor and lighting please!) and decide on a random pattern.
As you can see, I'm not TOTALLY idiotic, I have gone for a fairly simple pattern. It is the Amy Butler "Amy's Lotus Brick Path Quilt", downloaded from the Amy Butler Design site. There are some great patterns available! I have modified the size of the quilt to fit a single bed, so same length but a bit narrower.
And for the rest of this week, this project is on hold as I try to organise last years school 'stuff' before the beginning of this year.
Have a great week.
